When we think of Japanese food we think of paella, but the Japanese like sweets too. One Japanese artist, Osamu Watanabe, has made a pair of shoes from fake cream and sweets. He thinks that his creations make people happy. "EVERYONE LOVES SWEETS", he says.





The heatmaster of a school in England shocked his pupils in assembly... by EATING A TARANTULA! Mr Onac ate the cooked spider to raise money for a drama centre at the school. "It tasted salty, and little by little like burnt chicken", he said.

IMAGE OF THE MONTH


A king penguin was not about to be intimidated by this giant elephant seal blocking his path to the sea. Instead, he slapped it with his flipper. But when the seal gave a huge roar, the brave penguin had to retreat and take the long way to the water. The encounter took place on the South Atlantic island of South Georgia.



GOLD TO GO



You never know when you might need some gold, do you? That's why not one, but two rival companies have introduced vending machines for gold. So far they are only in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi, and there're a bit in Europe (where else?), but there're plans to introduce them in supermarkets and other stores across the USA.

Lucky popcorn

This is the world's biggest box of popcorn! It was dropped near Tower Bridge, in London, buy the phone operator Orange. It celebrates "Orange Wednesdays", when Orange customers can buy two cinema tickets for the price of one. The box had a tonne of popcorn inside and €10,000 of prizes for lukcy customers.

Tea time! It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon in England, time for scones with jam and cream.
But scones are not normally this size! This is the world's biggest scone, made by a bakery in Devon, England. The scone weighed 45 kg and had 16 kg of cream and 9kg of jam. Can we try?

In many hotels, it is common to use key cards to enter in your room. Now a designer in NY has made an entire hotel out of key cards! The carpets, the tables, the toilets and also the bed linen are made from 200000 hotel key cards. The idea was to improve the hotel's image. But this bed doesn't look very comfortable!

MINI-CHESS

This is the smallest chess set in the world! It is 3,2 cm by 3,2, and it's magnetic so the pieces don't fall off when you play. It was made by Jaspal Singh Kalsi, from India, who makes other miniature models. But how can he see the King and Queen when he plays?

Imagine coming home for school to find a robot cooking your dinner! Well, that's possible now in Japan.
The robot stirs the ingredients in a bowl, pours them into a pan and servers your food. It also asks you what sort of sauces and condiments you would like. But if you want to understand, you'll have to learn Japanese

He makes animal sculptures with matches. The sculptures cost more than 20000 euros, but some people buy them and ask David Mach to burn them. "It's over in a few seconds", he says.
